My Edible Garden

I've been gardening for most of my life and have been a devoted fan of organic gardening the whole time. It just makes so much more sense to work in harmony with Mother Nature than to fight her. Besides which it is better for the planet and better for our bodies. Here you can see what I'm planting and harvesting, with gardening hints and resources thrown in for good measure.

Transformation

On Sunday my farmer girl helped me start clearing out the empty chicken pens by the creek. (which is really a dry wash that only runs when it rains)

Two of the small coops were were able to move; the larger one was too heavy so I left it for now. Will probably just store plastic pots and such in it for the time being.

Once the coops were out it was time to start working on garden beds. I had to take my farmer girl back home Sunday afternoon, but she's looking forward to coming back in a couple of weeks.





1st double row ready to plant


I lucked out with having Monday off so I worked on the garden some more and got the first double row ready to plant. More pics in a day or two.

    Mary, looks like you are off to a good start with your coops and planting. I have potatoes in the ground but the cool weather will probably prevent them from growing too fast. I'm hoping to get some cabbages and onions in the ground next week which will be the official beginning of the garden year.

    I'm glad to see that you have a little helper. My little helper (grandson) would rather just play with friends or on the Xbox. (big sigh) I'm hoping to get him interested in planting some sweet corn this year.
