My Edible Garden

I've been gardening for most of my life and have been a devoted fan of organic gardening the whole time. It just makes so much more sense to work in harmony with Mother Nature than to fight her. Besides which it is better for the planet and better for our bodies. Here you can see what I'm planting and harvesting, with gardening hints and resources thrown in for good measure.

This Crazy Life. Coyotes and more

I lost several hens last week that were accidentally free ranging. No tracks or bodies so I thought a hawk or possibly a bobcat since I seldom see tracks from them when the ground is dry.

This morning I got 1.1” in about an hour. I had to go to work just as it started letting up.

When I got home the gate to the hill pen was open and the birds were all out. There were several new feather explosions. And then I found this pair of tracks. Probably coyotes. At least one adult and one pup. At dark I rounded them all up and put them in a more secure pen. Several are injured across their backs.  Hopefully the coyotes will move on somewhere else.

I’m working on fence as fast as I can but it’s slow going by myself.

There was a pretty rainbow when I got to work tho. In other news there is still a mouse eating seedlings. My PC is having mouse issues also: the wireless mouse croaked and I can’t get the newer one to work. So I don’t know what the issue is.

The broody’s bunch have been doing good until today when I found a chick a little sluggish and cold. I warmed it up and put it back but it was dead later. It might have had an internal issue or it might have gotten chilled with the rain this morning. I don’t know. Stuff happens.
