My Edible Garden

I've been gardening for most of my life and have been a devoted fan of organic gardening the whole time. It just makes so much more sense to work in harmony with Mother Nature than to fight her. Besides which it is better for the planet and better for our bodies. Here you can see what I'm planting and harvesting, with gardening hints and resources thrown in for good measure.

8/6/18 hotter than Hades

I moved the last six chicks outdoors.

I cleaned out the empty pen and got it ready to move birds into tomorrow.

Some babies. These hatched in June.

More olive egger and Ameraucana in the same pen.

Liking this little black pullet. That's sun shining her, not white spots.

I've been craving some good fermented veggies. A store run turned up some colored bell peppers and cucumbers in the bargain bin, so now they are in the crock.

It was 106°F here and when I went to do chores this guy was down. He started convulsing when I picked him up. I put him in the dogs water in the shade while I finished chores. I took him inside and got some electrolytes down him. Will check on him in the morning. #heatstroke

A minutature yellow rose. It's only about the size of a quarter.

My volunteer melon is ready. This is a Northern New Mexico melon. It weighed 9# 10 ounces. The bottom is splitting from the rain the other day but I'm sure there will be plenty of good parts for breakfast.
Some of the usual, visit with mom, chores done. Just too dang hot to do much. Good night world.
